About the Rainbow Buffalo

RainbowBuffalo_AK

The Rainbow Buffalo went viral in two North American cities in June of 2018.

In Buffalo Grove, Illinois, 12 year old Molly Pinta was inspired to bring a pride celebration to her own hometown after attending the inaugural Aurora Pride Parade. Her family formed the Pinta Pride Project, a non-profit organization to promote acceptance and love while raising funds to bring a pride parade to Buffalo Grove in 2019. The Rainbow Buffalo was adopted as the symbol of their efforts and heads the charge.  Rainbow Buffalo are now popping up all over the area, as magnets/stickers on cars,  in local business windows of sponsors, and more!

In Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Outdoor Campus director Thea Ryan crafted and hung a Proud Bison for pride week.  She was later forced to remove the decorative rainbow buffalo after a patron complained to the mayor’e office and governor’s office, stating it “promoted homosexuality” to her 3 year old child. In solidarity, Pride Bison/Rainbow Buffalo started appearing as Facebook profile pictures and as stickers all over the city with the help of Sioux Falls Pride non-profit organization.

Artist Alisa Kober has designed a new Rainbow Buffalo Jo, complete with cool shades and earring, to support ALL efforts to spread acceptance and love of fellow queer folk everywhere. As the Aurora Pride Festival 2019 logo contest winner, Alisa is selling her artwork and donating a portion of all profits to support organizations including the Pinta Pride Project, PFLAG of Northern IllinoisIndivisible Aurora, and others.  She hopes to see Rainbow Buffalo Jo all over the world some day.  Is your city next? Let’s make it happen!
